Paul Zykofsky directs the Local Government Commission’s programs related to land use and transportation planning, community design, and health and the built environment. In the past 20 years he has worked with over 250 communities to improve conditions for infill development, walking, bicycling and transit. During the last 15 years he has facilitated participatory design workshops and charrettes in over 80 communities. Mr. Zykofsky provides technical assistance to communities throughout the nation on issues related to smart growth, infill development, transit-oriented development, street and sidewalk design, health and the built environment, and public participation in the planning process. He is certified to facilitate workshops on Walkable Communities, Safe Routes to School (for the National Center for SRTS), Complete Streets (for the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals) and pedestrian safety (for the Federal Highway Administration). Zykofsky is a frequent presenter at local, regional and national conferences. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and an Associate Member of the American Institute of Architects. He was born and raised in Mexico and is fluent in Spanish.
